Peoples’s overall development is their motto and they are, continuously in the process of achieving it with action research. “We mingle with people to understand their needs, ask them what they want rather than imposing what we want to give them,” says M.Subhash Chandra, coordinator of Centre for Action Research and People’s Development.
In the twin cities, Carped is proud to announce the success of its Walk to School programme wherein school children were taught traffic rules and road safety, says A V G kumar, Vice-Chairman of the centre. He says, “our objective is to sensitise students, parents and the society about safety.” Also, Carped has been instrumental in identifying child domestic workers in the twin cities in order to free them and provide an alternative to eke out a living. “We do not want to deprive them of their livelihood. At the same time we do not want the little ones being subject to pain”, says Subhash. Outside the twin cities, Carped’s greatest achievement has been abolishing child marriages in kowdipally in Medak district where the menace was rampant. “For the past three years we have not come across any case of child marriage”, Kumar says. Carped has lots of projects for people’s development but lacks funding. But that does not deter their dedication towards people.
